Hi there. Time to picture some horses in the sunny Oliva during the Spring Mediterranean Equestrian Tour 2016. Once I arrived to the spot, I was impressed by the location, surroundings and facilites: the Oliva Nova Golf Resort is a stunning sport and event area located next to the Mediterranean Sea. With five arenas constructed by Klaus Dammann, the centre belongs to the best ones of the international equestrian circuit, receiving the best riders from more than 40 countries of 5 continents. The light was hard, but the sky was in a deep blue tone with some clouds so, I spent some time shooting the grass arena competition with my 24mm tilt-shift lens to give the images a dreamy effect.

If you ever shot an equestrian event, you should know one of the most requested images – and by the way one of the most powerful – is the one you take from a low angle point of view just next to the fence, while the horse and rider are jumping. We need to be careful about how to set up the remote camera. Not only the spot, the angle or the frame, but also with the camera settings. Once I chose the frame and angle, I set the focus point just in the middle of the bar – where the rider is supposed to jump, as the fence is the third of a triple jump in a long straight line -, and set the mode in Aperture Priority.

The picture above is quite strong and powerful: the light is coming just from the side so the horse, the fence and rider are well lit enough – despite the hard sun light -, and the blue sky with clouds do the rest. Stay tuned!!
